Chatly is an AI-powered chatbot plugin for WordPress. It uses advanced AI models (Claude by Anthropic or ChatGPT by OpenAI) to have natural conversations with your website visitors, answer their questions, and capture leads—all automatically, 24/7.

Unlike traditional chatbots with rigid scripts, Chatly understands context, maintains natural conversations, and provides thoughtful answers based on information you provide in your Knowledge Base.

Most users are up and running in 15 minutes or less. The basic setup involves:

  • Installing the plugin (2 minutes)
  • Adding your API key (3 minutes)
  • Customizing your welcome message (5 minutes)
  • Adding a few Knowledge Base entries (5 minutes)

You can always refine and expand your setup later as you see what questions visitors ask.

No coding required. Everything is configured through the WordPress admin dashboard with simple forms and settings. You just fill in your business information, customize colors to match your brand, and add Q&As to your Knowledge Base.

Yes! Chatly is designed to work with any WordPress theme. The chat widget loads independently of your theme's styling, so there are no compatibility issues. You can customize colors to match your brand.

AI & API

Chatly supports two AI providers:

  • Claude by Anthropic — Known for thoughtful, nuanced responses and strong safety features
  • ChatGPT by OpenAI — The most widely-used AI assistant, great for general conversation

You can use either one, and switch between them anytime. Most users pick whichever they're already familiar with or test both to see which works better for their audience.

For Claude (Anthropic):

  • Go to console.anthropic.com
  • Create an account and add payment method
  • Generate an API key in your dashboard

For ChatGPT (OpenAI):

  • Go to platform.openai.com
  • Create an account and add payment method
  • Generate an API key in your API keys section

API costs depend on your conversation volume, but most small to medium sites spend between $3-10 per month. You're charged based on "tokens" (roughly words) processed.

A typical conversation with 10 back-and-forth messages might cost $0.01-0.03. Even busy sites with hundreds of conversations monthly usually stay well under $20/month.

Both Anthropic and OpenAI provide usage dashboards so you can monitor your spending.

Yes. Your API key is stored in your WordPress database and never transmitted except directly to the AI provider's servers. Chatly doesn't send your API key to any third parties, including our own servers.

Features

The Knowledge Base is where you add specific information about your business that the AI should know. You create question-and-answer pairs like:

  • Q: What are your hours?
  • A: We're open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm EST.

When visitors ask questions, Chatly checks the Knowledge Base first. If there's a match, it uses your provided answer. If not, the AI generates a response based on your system prompt.

You can configure Chatly to ask for visitor contact information during the conversation. Options include:

  • Ask after a certain number of messages
  • Ask when visitors express purchase intent
  • Ask at the start of the conversation

Captured leads are stored in your WordPress database and can be exported to CSV or automatically sent to your email marketing platform (MailPoet, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, AWeber).

SEO Insights is a Pro feature that analyzes your chatbot conversations to help improve your content strategy. It shows you:

  • Top Questions — What visitors ask most often
  • Keywords — The exact words and phrases visitors use
  • Content Gaps — Questions the AI struggled to answer well
  • FAQ Schema Generator — One-click JSON-LD markup for Google

If you have Yoast SEO installed, Chatly also compares your focus keywords with actual visitor language to find opportunities.

Chatly Pro integrates with:

When a lead is captured, it's automatically added to your selected email list.

Yes! You can customize:

  • Primary and secondary colors
  • Position (bottom-right or bottom-left)

Pricing & Licensing

No. Your Chatly Pro subscription renews anually unless you cancel.

The only ongoing cost is your AI API usage, which you pay directly to Anthropic or OpenAI (typically $3-10/month for most sites).

Your license is good for one year. There is a 7-day grace period, and should you not renew, the plugin will stop working. All the data that was collected, will still be available through your dashboard, although the chatbot will no longer respond to user questions.

One WordPress installation = one site. Each unique domain where you activate Chatly counts as one site.

These don't count against your limit:

  • Staging/development sites
  • localhost installations
  • Subdomains used for testing

Absolutely. Just pay the difference between your current plan and the new one. Contact us and we'll apply your original purchase as credit toward the upgrade.

Troubleshooting

Check these common causes:

  • Plugin enabled? — Make sure "Enable Chatbot" is turned on in settings
  • Cache cleared? — Clear your caching plugin and CDN cache
  • JavaScript errors? — Check browser console for conflicts with other plugins
  • License active? — Verify your license is activated (Pro only)

This is usually an API key issue:

  • Check your API key — Make sure it's entered correctly with no extra spaces
  • Check your balance — Ensure you have credit with Anthropic or OpenAI
  • Test the connection — Use the "Test API" button in settings
  • Check rate limits — New API accounts sometimes have lower limits

Verify your lead capture settings:

  • Lead capture enabled? — Check the Lead Capture tab in settings
  • Trigger configured? — Set when the form should appear
  • Required fields? — Make sure at least email is required
  • Check the Leads page — Leads might be there but email integration isn't working

Check your integration settings:

  • API credentials correct? — Double-check your API key/token
  • List ID correct? — Make sure you're using the right list identifier
  • Plugin active? — For MailPoet, ensure the MailPoet plugin is active
  • Check error logs — Look in Chatly → Leads for any error messages
